Falcon Raceway Grand Prix 2019.

After the huge success of our new Formula One support races at last year’s NASCAR Challenge, we decided to introduce a full season of racing for 2019. In addition to our F1 championship races, we will be holding two ‘Grand Prix’ Saturday events – the first of which takes place on 1st June.

For those new to the club, Lee has been busy with the paint and decals, and – using some old generic single-seater Scalextric cars he picked up on eBay – he has created a grid of six cars based on some of the liveries raced in the 1989 season. The grid consists of the following cars:

#1 – Ayrton Senna – McLaren
#3 – Jonathan Palmer – Tyrrell
#5 – Thierry Boutsen – Williams
#11 – Nelson Piquet – Lotus
#20 – Johnny Herbert – Benetton
#27 = Nigel Mansell – Ferrari

Race Format

The race will consist of a two minute qualifying session to decide grid positions, followed by an eight minute race. No pace cars will be used. Each entrant will complete one race with each car/controller, so will contest a total of six races. Points will be awarded for each position, and will be based on the scoring system in use during the 1989 season:

1st: 9 points
2nd: 6 points
3rd: 4 points
4th: 3 points
5th: 2 points
6th: 1 point

Trophies will be awarded for the top three point scorers at the end of the event.

The support races for the Grand Prix will come from the BTCC. In this class, we try to emulate the real world British Touring Car Championship, with racers contesting shorter 25 lap races with points awarded for position:

1st – 20
2nd – 17
3rd – 15
4th – 13
5th – 11

One point is also awarded for the fastest lap in each race, and with each racer participating in five races each, two of these must be contested on the soft compound tyre and three on hard tyres. Again, RCS64 Software is used, with tyre and weather simulation. More information on race format and car spec can be found here.

Trophies will be awarded the top three point scorers at the end of the contest.
